Adaptive Wheelchair program
Since 2012, OHANA has been steadfast in its commitment to developing the provision of adaptive wheelchairs through a strategic partnership with Global Mobility USA. To date, we have distributed over 500 specialized wheelchair units to children and adults with disabilities across all corners of Indonesia. This program extends beyond mere physical distribution to include comprehensive training initiatives for Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and local communities—covering individual assessment processes, fitting, modification, as well as technical repair and maintenance of assistive devices.
Our commitment transcends technical assistance; OHANA actively advocates for inclusive budgeting in various regions, including Central Java, East Java, NTT, NTB, South Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan. We encourage regional governments to replicate the successful cooperation model we have established with Bapel Jamkesos DIY, where the government allocates specific budgets for the provision of adaptive assistive devices for persons with disabilities at the district and city levels.
This program, which encompasses both technical aspects and policy reform, has delivered tangible impact across various regions, ranging from Yogyakarta and Central Java (including Magelang, Temanggung, Banyumas, and Tegal) to Sidoarjo, Makassar, and Kupang. By training local communities to provide high-quality services, we not only help reduce health risks and physical deformities for users but also pave the way for increased independence, enhanced quality of life, and broader social inclusion for persons with disabilities in Indonesia.
