Response List of Issue (Coalition/OHANA)
Cases of neglect or separation of persons with disabilities from their parents and/or children still frequently occur. This is based on the assumption of the inability of persons with disabilities to raise children. In some regions, such as Yogyakarta, most persons with disabilities in institutions are not connected to their families, and the institutions usually provide their schooling through Special Needs Schools (SLB). In West Java, a number of cases still occur, such as a husband leaving his child upon learning the child has a psychosocial disability (3 cases assisted by DPOs in West Java), a girl with Cerebral Palsy (CP) abandoned by her father since birth and neglected.
There are also many cases assisted by DPOs where women with disabilities do not receive their rights in marriage, such as marital property (harta gono-gini) or sustenance after divorce. Currently, there is at least 1 case of a woman with a disability assisted by a disabled persons' organization in West Java related to marital property and child education expenses from her ex-husband.
